JACOBS IS COACH OF THE YEAR
Manila, Dec. 23, 1997 - Ron Jacobs last night received the Baby Dalupan award as Coach of the Year.
Jacobs won overwhelmingly in the balloting among the members of the Philippine Basketball Association Press Corps, beating two-time winner Tim Cone of Alaska, Eric Altamirano of Purefoods and Robert Jaworski of Gordon's Gin.
The American coach led an injury-plagued San Miguel team to a big turn-around from a not-so- brilliant performance last year.
Jacobs became the first coach to win the Baby Dalupan Award without winning a single championship in the season.
The previous winners are Chot Reyes in 1993, Tim Cone in 1994 and 1996 and Derick Pumaren in 1995.
