TANDUAY COACH SUSPENDED, FINED
Manila, Dec. 18, 1997 - The Philippine Basketball League yesterday slapped Tanduay coach Alfrancis Chua with a one-game suspension and a P10,000 fine after he led his team to walk out of their semi-final game against Welcoat Paints Monday.
PBL Commissioner Yeng Guiao said Chua deserves to be reprimanded "for conduct unbecoming as a coach."
The Tanduay Rhum Makers walked out of their match against the Paint Masters with three seconds still remaining in the game. Chua and his players were reportedly disgusted over the way the referees officiated the game.
Tanduay was trailing badly, 66-80, when the walkout happened.
The franchise was likewise fined P50,000 which is one of the PBL's toughest ever imposed on a member team since 1991.
