ALASKA ONE WIN AWAY FROM TITLE
Quezon City, Dec. 13, 1997 - Alaska last night won Game 4 of the best-of-seven championship series, to place the Milkmen one win away from the Governor's Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.
Veteran sportswriter Musong Castillo writes that the defending champions ran Purefoods to the ground with balanced firepower, all but wrapping up the series by taking a 3-1 lead with their win.
With an NBA scout watching his every move, Johnny Abarrientos spearheaded the Alaska attack right from the start, making his first five shots and finishing the game as the Milkmen inch closer to an unprecedented fourth straight tournament championship.
Joe Betancourt, scout for the Charlotte Hornets, flew in just to watch Abarrientos play. The former coach of the US team to the Taipei Jones Cup also asked for a tape of the highlights of Abarrientos' career.
