CASH INCENTIVES FOR SEA GAMES MEDALLISTS
Manila, Dec. 1, 1997 - The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) still start distributing Wednesday P10 million promised as incentives to medallists in the recent 19th Southeast Asian Games in Jakarta.
PSC Chairman Philip Ella Juico said that P4.219 million will be given out to the winners of 45 gold medals, P2.34 million for the 56 silver medallists and P3.47 million for the 107 bronze medallists.
Gymnast Pia Adel will get the biggest sum, P225,000, for the three gold medals she won. Elma Muros Posadas, Hector Begeo and Ryan Papa will each get P150,00 for winning two medals apiece.
Under the PSC policy, a gold medal bonus is P75,000, a silver P40,000 and P20,000 for bronze. For team events, members of the gold medal team each gets P30,000, silver medallists P20,000 each, and P10,000 for bronze-winning squads.
Coaches are also given percentages of the athletes' bonuses.
