PREMIERE PLANS 50 RURAL CINEMAS
Manila, Dec.18, 1997 - Premiere Entertainment Productions is building a chain of mini-cinemas in provincial areas which do not have movie houses.
Premiere president Cirio Santiago said the first two will be launched this month in Negros Oriental.
The mini-cinemas will be patterned after similar chains in Brazil and Mexico, using video projectors. All the movie houses will be air-conditioned and will seat 250 movie goers per screening. Each mini-cinema will cost P4 million to P5 million.
To fight piracy, Santiago announced that the mini cinemas will show movies currently showing in Manila, or at least only a week behind Manila.
Right now, Santiago explained, illegal film showings in the provinces are so rampant that almost 50%% of a film's potential box office revenue is lost to videotape pirates.
