BATIBOT GETS UNICEF AWARD
Tokyo, Dec. 5, 1997 - The Filipino production "Batibot" won an international award from the 24th Japan Prize International Educational Program Contest.
The Batibot episode on "Child of Labor: Sugarcane Workers" won the UNICEF Prize for presenting the life and environment of children in developing countries.
At awards ceremonies attended by Japan's Crown Prince and Princess, Consul Domingo Nolasco received the prize in behalf of the program.
This year's Japan Prize has 163 entries from 96 organizations in 47 countries. The winners were selected by an international jury composed of 16 members from 13 countries.
The Japan Prize was established in 1965 to contribute to the advancement of educational programs worldwide. Batibot is aired over GMA-7 daily.
