RUFFA'S FILMS STILL BANNED IN MANILA
Manila, Dec. 3, 1997 - No movie starring Ruffa Gutierrez has been shown in any theater within the City of Manila since 1994, when Mayor Alfredo Lim imposed a ban on her flicks because of her involvement as a major player in the infamous Manila Film Festival awards scam.
Since there has been no announcement from the office of the Manila Mayor lifting the ban, Regal Films is worried that Ruffa's latest film "Halik" might suffer the same fate as her earlier attempts to revive her showbiz career. "Pinakamagandang Hayop" failed miserably in the tills because of the ban, and so did another movie directed by Toto Natividad.
And now, with Mayor Lim looking like a winner in the presidential race although elections are still six months away, the star of the Gutierrez family is in danger of being banned from the entire country.
Ruffa might just decide to return to Hollywood for good, to try her luck where her films have a better chance of being shown, and seen.
