SUBIC-TYPE ZONE PLANNED IN CAGAYAN
Sta. Ana, Cagayan, Dec. 30, 1997- The country's most experienced contractor has begun inventory and mapping of 54,000 hectares of the future special economic zone and free port in this coastal town.
F.F. Cruz Company was tapped by the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority to help create a P18.5-million master plan for the zone.
The plan is to develop a port in Cagayan which will transform Sta. Ana into a gateway for Northern Luzon products such as rice, corn, fish and animal feed to be exported to the rest of Asia.
Rodolfo Reyes, Zone administrator, said Sta. Ana is ideally located along the shipping routes between the United States and China. "We are also just 90 minutes away from Hong Kong and 45 minutes from Kaoshiung, Taiwan," Reyes said.
Reyes said that the long-term plan would take 20 years to complete, but would prod the modernization of farming methods in Northern Luzon to prepare for the export market.
