JOLLIBEE PUSHES OVERSEAS EXPANSION
Manila, Dec. 30, 1997 - Jollibee, the original Filipino burger-and-chicken fastfood company, has gone beyond beating American giant MacDonalds in the Philippines. Jollibee is now one of the most successful Asian food franchises in the region.
Jollibee has 27 outlets outside the Philippines: Brunei (6), Indonesia (4), Malaysia (1), Vietnam (1), Hong Kong (3), Middle East (11) and Guam (1).
Before the end of this month, two more Jollibee outlets will open in Kuala Lumpur and around 10 more in other countries.
The company went mainstream by banking on the patronage of large expatriate Filipino communities as the base in the Middle East, Hong Kong and Guam. It capitalized on the unique herby-spicy "Filipino taste" of its burgers, unlike the American brands which boast of their burgers' "beefiness" that seldom appeals to Filipino taste buds.
