RP TO SAVE $55-M FROM LEYTE-CEBU POWER PLANT
Cebu City, Dec. 27, 1997 - The government expects to save $55 million annually with the commercial operation of the multi-million Leyte-Cebu Interconnection Project.
The savings will come from the use of geothermal energy, unlike other power plants that depend on imported oil fuel.
The project is expected to provide an additional 200 megawatts from the geothermal fields of Leyte to the island province of Cebu.
The four major islands of Panay, Negros, Leyte and Samar are now interconnected by submarine cables, which form part of the more ambitious and ultimate goal of interconnecting the country's major island grids into a single "Philippine electric superhighway" or the Philippine Grid.
