PESO, STOCKS POST GAINS
Manila, Dec. 19, 1997 - The Philippine peso and t he stock market both halted a week of declines yesterday, as the central bank and the bankers association launched a coordinated rescue effort.
The peso yesterday P39.534 per dollar, compared to P40.02 the day before.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index rose 49.19 points to 1,846.09, with gainers outnumbering losers 67 to 25. A total of 815 million shares valued at P1.48 billion changed hands.
