GOVT FOCUSES ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS
Manila, Dec. 16, 1997 - The Philippine government's Build-Operate-Transfer program has been channelled to vital environmental projects to meet the goals of sustainable development.
The country's policy was presented in a paper during the United States-Asia Environmental Partnership conference by Francisco del Rosario, executive director of the Coordinating Council for Philippine Assistance Program.
The paper said " the country must concern itself not only with traditional infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges, but must pay close attention to environmental infrastructure projects such as waste disposal and treatment facilities, sewerage systems, water treatment and delivery systems."
Delegates from India, Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand cited the success of the Philippine BOT program as a viable alternative in overcoming resource constraints. Some of them have requested the Philippine BOT center to conduct training seminars in their respective countries.
