PAL TO RESUME VANCOUVER-N.Y. FLIGHTS
Manila, Nov. 28, 1997 - More tourists and Balikbayan are expected next year, following a US- FAA ruling that will allow the resumption of Philippine Air Lines' flights to the US via the Manila- Vancouver-New York route.
Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Leonides Caday announced that US Aviation regulators have upgraded the Philippines' aviation rating to "Category 1" meaning the country fully complies with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization, a UN agency.
PAL vice president Manolo Aquino said the airline can now start flying a Manila-Seoul-Los Angeles route which was negotiated early this year. Previously, PAL was limited to trans-Pacific San Francisco and Los Angeles routes.
The PAL Manila-Vancouver-New York flights were suspended early this year after the Philippines was hit with a Category 2 downgrade.
