JAPAN-SUBIC CHARTER FLIGHTS BEGIN
Subic Bay Freeport, Nov. 28, 1997 - Some 300 Japanese tourists were welcomed by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority as they stepped off a Japan Air System DC-10, the first in a series of chartered Japanese tourist flights to arrive in Subic.
The Subic destination promises to make its mark on the Japanese tourism market, with the establishment of the Harlequin Air Corporation, a new subsidiary airline of Japan Air System operating international flights.
The number of Japanese tourists is expected to increase dramatically as a result of a series of chartered tours sponsored by the Japanese carrier and Kinki Nihon Tourist, a major travel agency ranked Number 2 in Japan.
"It took two and a half years to get this bird over here on our ground from Japan," said Chairman Gordon. "Now, we finally have a whole plane loaded with Japanese, the first of many more flights to come."
