NAVAL MUSEUM FOR UNDERWATER TREASURES
Manila, Nov. 26, 1997 - When the Philippines celebrates the centennial of Philippine Independence in June 1998, one of the top attractions will be a Naval Museum which will showcase the rich history of a Philippine maritime and navy tradition.
The timely project is a cooperative venture of the National Centennial Commission, the Philippine Navy and the Manila Yacht Club.
To secure financial assistance for the maintenance of the proposed museum and to mobilize support for the museum's projects and activities, a semi-private entity called the Naval-Maritime Museum Foundation is going set up.
Putting the endeavor into better perspective, he Development Academy of the Philippines recently conducted a Strategic Planning Workshop through its Center for Public Management.
Dr. Eusebio Dizon, head of the Underwater Archaeology Section of the National Museum, calls the project a long-needed venue for the display of treasure troves recovered from Philippine seabeds, which have been exhibited around the world.
