SAMAL ISLAND CASINO RESORT READY
Samal Island, Davao, Nov. 24, 1997 - The 16-hectare Samal Casino Resort is ready for a soft opening next month.
The resort is part of a 215-hectare sprawling tourism facility being developed on Samal Island by Ekran Berhard, a Malaysian company. Department of Tourism regional director Catalina Dakudao said the resort development is a flagship project of President Ramos, who has "consistently provided high-level support in order to push this through."
Lee Hock Kee, Ekran project manager, is confident that the entire resort staff is all ready for a modest soft opening ceremony next month, and possibly a more elaborate one early next year.
The Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative has started providing electricity for the resort. The only minor hitch left involves right-of-way negotiations, which are already in progress and so far proceeding smoothly, said Lee.
