MORE MIDEAST TOURISTS EXPECTED
Bacolod City, Nov. 21, 1997 - The Department of Tourism sees a 15% increase in conventioners and incentive traffic from the Middle East and Gulf states next year.
The World Tourism Organization has forecast that the number of global travellers from the Middle East will double by the year 2010. To date, the outbound market is worth US$10 billion and still escalating. This market remains largely untapped by the Philippine tourism sector.
Statistics from the Department of Tourism show that only 21,543 Middle East and Gulf states tourists visited the Philippines in 1996, and the annual arrival pattern fluctuates.
The promotion of the Philippines as a top destination for holiday travel and conventions will be done through tourism and investment missions, trade and media familiarization trios, production of tour packages and proliferation of brochures and promotional paraphernalia.
Top travel agencies and tour operators and Middle East agents of Philippine Air Lines, meeting recently in Bacolod, made a commitment to push the country as a top destination for travellers from their territories.
