NEGROS BUSINESSMEN REHABILITATE PULUPANDAN PORT
Bacolod City, Nov. 20, 1997 - A consortium of Negros business leaders have just signed a memorandum of understanding with the Philippine Ports Authority to rehabilitate Pulupandan Port.
Rodolfo Alvarez spoke for the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which put together the local group and some Canadian investors to finance P14 million for a feasibility study on the rehab project.
Pulupandan Port is only 32 kilometers south of Bacolod City, but has little attention from the government, unlike San Carlos City which is 120 kilometer away but has had pledged congressional funding support.
Alvarez explained that his group's action showed that the private sector has decided to resolve a long-standing problem.
The development of Pulupandan port will greatly ease travel to and from Bacolod, thereby increasing incoming tourist traffic.
