RECORD HARVEST MARKS CAMIGUIN'S LANZONES FESTIVAL
Camiguin Island, Nov. 19, 1997 - The lanzones harvest on the paradise island of Camiguin is expected to be double that of last year, thus allowing residents to offer visitors a free eat-all-you- can Lanzones Festival.
Eugenio Penalosa, provincial agricultural officer, says "no major storm hit the island during the flowering stage of the lanzones trees, and this year's harvest will reach 40,000 to 50,000 boxes, each box loaded with 30-35 kilos of ripe fruit."
Last year's crop was ruined by rains, while the 1996 harvest was only 20,000 boxes.
"The Lanzones Festival is a thanksgiving celebration for all the favors we received from God," intoned Camiguin Governor Antonio Gallardo.
Lanzones has always been the pride of Camiguin Island which is also famous for its beaches, volcanoes and hospitable people.
