TWO SPEED BOATS TO BOOST ZAMBOANGA TOURISM
Zamboanga City, Nov. 18, 1997 - Councilor Asbi Edding has recommended that two speed boats purchased from Malaysia by the city government for the Bantay Dagat Movement be used for tourism purposes.
The speed boats, costing P1 million, are still in the custody of he Bureau of Customs pending completion of importation papers and other documentation.
He pointed out that because the boats are not armored, they cannot be used for their intended purpose of chasing pirates. He suggested that the boats instead be rented out for tourism purposes, so that the government's investment would not be wasted.
In lieu of the imported boats, Edding is proposing the purchase of 10 local motorized pumpboats which could be used to conduct sea patrols. The 10 boats will cost only P1 million total.
