SILANG-SANTA ROSA RIVER SAVED, BEAUTIFIED
Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Nov. 16, 1997 - It will soon be possible to row down the Santa Rosa River, paddling from Cavite to Laguna provinces, through scenic bamboo and mahogany groves.
Government and civic leaders from the towns of Binan and Santa Rosa, Laguna and Silang, Cavite, as well as leaders of industry in the two provinces have banded together in the Save Silang-Santa Rosa River Foundation. Their aim is to rehabilitate, maintain and protect the river system.
The 27-kilometer river starts from the springs of Silang, separates certain barangays of Santa Rosa from Binan, and cuts through the municipality of Sta. Rosa before heading for Laguna de Bay.
The groups has successfully gone through an 8-day river clean-up which collected thousands of sacks of garbage and other pollutants from the river.
The riverbanks were also planted with thousands of bamboo and mahogany seedlings.
