LOCAL TOURS FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL KIDS
Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Nov. 15, 1997 - The Bureau of Tourism under the auspices of Regional Director Blessida Diwa conducted local tours for some 257 out-of-school kids in the Cagayan valley region. The youth were treated to a series of "Heroes Tours of Northern Luzon" under a program called "Huwag Maging Dayuhan sa Sariling Bayan" (Not to Become a Foreigner in Your Own Land). The program aims to instill a sense of nationalism as well as awareness of their own culture and heritage in the young minds.
Among the places toured were the Callao Caves Tourist zone in Cagayan, Magat Dam Tourist complex in Isabella, Villa Margarita Mountain resort in Nueva Viscaya and various age-old churches and museums in the provinces. The Ifugao Rice Terraces, Yamashita Shrine, the Kiangan Museum, the 5-star resort of Fort Ilocandia, Malacanang North, Marcos Mausoleum and the Juan Luna Shrine in the Ilocos region were also visited.
