FVR LAUNCHES LAS PINAS HISTORICAL CORRIDOR
Malacanang, Nov. 12, 1997 - President Fidel Ramos today led the launching of the Las Pinas Historical Corridor, a project which aims to transform the once-sleepy town of Las Pinas into a Spanish-era town reminiscent of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
The project of Congressman Manny Villar will cover 3.6 kilometers of Calle Real or the national highway, also known as Mexico Avenue and Quirino Avenue, from the town's boundary with Paranaque to the historic Zapote Bridge.
The different components of the Historical Corridor are the famous Las Pinas Bamboo Organ Church, the salt beds or Asinan, the Las Pinas Bridge and the old district hospital.
Copying the concept of the Intramuros Administration, the Las Pinas government now imposes very strict building code requirements in its desire to make all the homes' façades resemble Spanish-era homes Vigan-style.
