2ND FLAG CARRIER CEBU PACIFIC INCREASES FLIGHTS
Manila, Nov. 8, 1997 - Cebu Pacific, the country's new national flag carrier, is expanding it operations to meet the demand for more flights in various domestic destinations.
Before the year ends, Cebu Pacific will have increased its flights from 38 to 44. This 14% increase translates to an additional 5,000 passengers daily. Its current flights are to: Cgayan de Oro (3x daily), Bacolod (2x daily), Tacloban (3x daily), Iloilo (3x daily), Davao (4x daily) and Cebu (6x daily).
Cebu Pacific has also increased its flights to Kalibo, Aklan 7 times a week, with daily flights leaving Manila at 9:30 in the morning.
Diego Garrido, chief adviser for airline marketing and operations management, says the currency fluctuation has made people more conscious of the value they get for their purchases. "Cebu Pacific's low fares allow more people to fly more often and expand their corporate travel budgets."
National Statistics Office data show a 20.78% increase in airline travellers during the first half of 1997. The increase is attributed to the affordability of air travel resulting from competition after the airline industry was opened up to competition.
