PAL NO LONGER ALWAYS LATE
Manila, Nov. 6, 1997 - Philippine Air Lines, the country's flag carrier, has significantly improved its on-time performance in international routes from 60 percent to 85 percent within the last 2 years.
In an interview on "Business Insight" PAL president Jose Antonio Garcia said that as the airline improves its computer and ground handling systems and as it refleets, its planes will be on time more often.
The internationally-accepted standard for On Time Performance (OTP) is 90 percent. In the domestic route, the airline's OTP is better than 90 percent. An OTP is measured by an aircraft's ability to leave within 15 minutes after its scheduled time of departure.
Soon, PAL will be able to completely shed its monicker Plane Always Late.
