MANILA AS ASIA PACIFIC MUSIC CAPITAL
Manila, Nov. 5, 1997 - An international music festival two weeks from now is expected to reinforce the Philippines' image as the music capital of the Asia-Pacific region.
"Musika Manila" will showcase the biggest gathering of music artists from Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands. At least 500 folk artists will participate in nine days and nights of sights and sounds. The festival begins November 22.
The grand musical event is geared to lure tourists to the country's diverse musical forms that emanate from the distinct cultural tradition in every part of the archipelago.
Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor says "Musika Manila' follows in its unique and festive way the tradition of the Salzburg festival of Australia and the New Orleans jazz festival in the United States.
At least seven countries have confirmed their participation.
