HISTORIC SHRINES REFURBISHED FOR CENTENNIAL
Tanauan, Batangas, Nov. 4, 1997 - Philippine Centennial Commission Chairman Salvador Laurel assured the people of Batangas that the rehabilitation of the Mabini Shrine will be finished in time for the June 12 centennial celebration.
Work on the Mabini Shrine in Tanauan involves rehabilitation of the museum and memorabilia, which is 20 percent finished and the construction of an access road and bridge, which are 30 percent accomplished.
Other historic sites that form part of the Centennial Freedom Trail in the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Quezon) region are: the Rizal Shrine in Calamba and the Alapan, Imus site of the first display of the Philippine flag.
Rizal's old home in Calamba has been repaired and refurbished, with the drainage system around it improved.
In Imus, the school buildings around the site of the first flag-raising are being repaired and a 105-foot flagpole has been erected.
