QANTAS INCREASING RP-AUSSIE FLIGHTS
Manila, Nov. 3, 1997 - Following a forecast of continued rise in travellers, Qantas has announced additional flights from the Philippines to Australia next year.
Jan Knox, Qantas country manager for the Philippines, said Australia's flag carrier will increase its existing frequency of Manila-Sydney flight from five times weekly to six by the first quarter of 1998.
The additional service is expected to begin during Easter Week, when arrivals from the Philippines traditionally peak.
"The Philippines may be the smallest market in Asia. The number of Korean visitors alone reach 200,000 per year. But of all the countries in the world, the Philippines has registered the highest growth even though the base is smaller," Knox said.
She attributed the market's bright prospects to the continuing increase in the number of Filipinos flying to Australia either on business or pleasure. The number of travellers from the Philippines has risen tremendously because of the large Filipino community in Australia.
The Australian Tourism Commission reports that 34,000 Filipinos went to Australia last year, a 25% increase from 1995 figures.
