AMBASSADORS' ROW IN INTRAMUROS
Manila, Nov. 2, 1997 - Embassies and consulates of countries with historical and cultural ties with the Philippines will be housed on Ambassadors' Row in Intramuros by next year.
This was announced by Intramuros Administration chief Domingo Ferrer, who led officials at the ground breaking ceremonies for the project.
Ambassadors' Row will occupy the site of the old Philippine Constabulary barracks, one of the many historical sites being restored by the government.
The Santa Lucia barracks originally housed the Artilleria dela Montana, a Spanish artillery regiment during the Spanish period, as well as the office of the Guardia Civil detachment. In 1901, it became the first headquarters of the then newly-formed Philippine Constabulary and an officers' school which eventually became the Philippine Military Academy.
