PENALOSA WINS BY KO, KEEPS WBC CROWN

Seoul, Nov. 24, 1997 - Gerry Penalosa stopped South Korean challenger Young Cho Jun with a pair of crunching body blows in the 10th round yesterday and kept the World Boxing Council super-flyweight title.

It was not an easy victory. right hook by the Korean caught Penalosa squarely on the chin towards the end of the first round, dropping him to the canvas for an unlikely knockdown.

Cho drove Penalosa to the corner at the start of the 10th round and was still on the attack until the Filipino took the air out of him with a left hook and then right to the body.

It was Penalosa's second successful defense of the crown he had won from Japan's Hiroshi Kawashima.
