RP SPORTS COMMISSION CRACKS DOWN ON DRUGS
Manila, Nov. 18, 1997 - Philippine Sports Commission personnel were made to go through a series of physical examinations yesterday as part of the crackdown on alleged drug use at sports facilities.
PSC executive director Lucrecio Calo said medical teams from the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine were sent to the Philsports Center to conduct physical examinations on around 100 PSC personnel. Also required to undergo the tests are regional PSC coordinators.
The first round of tests was conducted at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, which was reported by newspapers to be a drug haven. Security has also been tightened, restricting access to legitimate employees of the PSC and the sports complex.
