TIGER WOODS COMING FOR PHILIPPINE CENTENNIAL CUP
Makati City, Nov. 11, 1997 - Tiger Woods may play with Arnold Palmer in the Philippines next year, when the Centennial Cup is held as part of the Philippines' celebration of 100 years of independence.
This was announced by Mark McCormack, president of the International Management Group, at a press conference with National Centennial Commission officials at the Peninsula Hotel yesterday.
"It will be played November 5-8, at the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite. It would be significant if I could bring back Arnold Palmer, and Tiger Woods, too. Arnold had informed Tiger about how wonderful the Philippines is," said McCormack.
"If I were to describe the two, Arnold is the Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin of golf, while Tiger is Bill Gates," was his description of the two golfers who might star in the tournament next year.
The pot for the initial tournament is $300,000.
