EL NINO PROMPTS PROTEST AGAINST CLARK GOLF COURSES
Mabalacat, Pampanga, Nov. 7, 1997 - Local officials of towns around Clark Field ate opposing the development of three new golf courses inside the former U.S. military base.
The Metro Clark Advisory Council (MCAC) composed of local officials in Porac, Mabalacat and Angeles City as well as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called Damayan are both urging the Clark Development Corporation to stop the construction of the golf courses which threaten the water supply in their towns.
There are now two existing golf courses inside the CDC: the 18-hole Mimosa and the Philippine Air Force's Mequeni. Mabalacat Councilor Jad Dayrit says the golf course developers should instead build housing units for the poor.
The new golf courses are Sacobia Hills Golf Course in Sacobia, Tarlac; Hacienda Golf Course in Sacobia and the Fontana Golf Course at Clark.
