WORLD SEPAK TAKRAW CHAMPIONSHIP IN BICOL
Camarines Sur, Nov. 2, 1997 - Nineteen countries from Asia, North America, Europe and Oceania are participating in the 3rd World Sepak Takraw Championships from November 30 to December 6 in Camarines Sur. At stake is the Governor Luis Villafuerte Cup, donated by the sports meet's main sponsor.
Governor Villafuerte said hosting the Sepak Takraw Championship will accelerate the sports development program of his province. He is aiming to host the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Championship competition in February.
Also on the drawing board for Camarines Sur are a Camarines Sur Sports Academy to train talents selected from its towns and cities, as well as the hosting of numerous national and regional games.
Confirmed participants to the Sepak Takraw World Championship meet are: the United States, Japan, Germany, Australia, China. Singapore, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Laos, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Canada.
