ONYOK STARS IN THE ONYOK VELASCO STORY
Manila, Nov. 28, 1997 - In an art-imitates-life twist, Olympic silver medallist boxer Onyok Velasco portrays himself in the movie "The Onyok Velasco Story" produced by Viva Films.
The film traces Onyok's rise to fame from his native Bago City in Negros to his bouts in Manila and his great moment of triumph in the Atlanta Olympics. Many Filipinos believe Onyok, and the country, were robbed of the gold during the final match between Onyok and the Bulgarian champ.
In the movie, Onyok's wife May is played by Ina Raymundo. Mrs. May Velasco, in real life, is pretty enough to be movie star, but she chose not to appear before the cameras.
Onyok is no novice in the movie world, having acted in two movies before he fought in Atlanta. In one movie, he even shared billing with Lito Lapid.
