CONNIE ANGELES WANTS TO BE Q.C. VICE MAYOR
Quezon City, Nov. 25, 1997 - Quezon City Councilor Connie Reyes has turned down proposals to run for mayor; she's seeking the second-highest city position and will run for vice mayor.
According to Manila Times columnist Mario Bautista, the former child actress still misses being a movie star and does not feel she's ready to be the top gun at City Hall.
"I don't feel that I'm prepared to assume an executive position yet,"Connie said. "I have to gain more experience. So, I'll run muna for vice mayor. Pero ang mas gusto ko, makalabas muna ulit sa movies, dahil nami-mis ko na ang pag-arte."
The mother of two, Connie is happily married to a businessman who has successfully managed to stay away from the limelight.
"I'd like to keep my family away from my public life so they can keep their privacy," she stressed. "Ako lang ang dapat makilala ng tao."
Connie Reyes started her showbiz life as the younger sister of Vilma Santos in "Trudis Liit" and as the young Dyesebel in "Anak ni Dyesebel." She ran for Councilor in 1992 on the urging of her "Kapwa ko, Mahal Ko" co-host Senator Orly Mercado. She emerged as topnotcher in the 1992 and 1995 elections for city council.
The present Vice Mayor of Quezon City is Herbert Bautista, himself a former child actor and TV star.
