MING IN 'FRISCO CONCERT WITH MARTIN AND MONIQUE
San Francisco, California, Nov. 23, 1997 - Philippine First Lady Amelita "Ming" Ramos, backed up by Martin Nievera, Monique Wilson and violinist John Lesaca, staged a piano concert Friday at the Palace for Fine Arts.
The concert, attended by close to a thousand, ran for two and a half hours and raised funds for the Helping Hands Foundation which establishes livelihood centers in depressed areas all over the Philippines.
Mrs. Ramos played jazz versions of three classic Filipino love songs: Minamahal, Sampaguita and Dahil Sa Iyo, warmly applauded by the audience led by President Ramos.
Touched by her concern for the poor, San Francisco Mayor Willy Brown declared November 23 as "Amelita Ramos Day."
