"WALANG SUGAT" SARSUELA RETURNS FOR CENTENNIAL FETE
Manila, Nov. 15, 1997 - As a prelude to the celebration of the Philippine Centennial, Tanghalang Pilipino will stage "Walang Sugat" starting November 21.
"Walang Sugat" is one of the most famous sarsuelas in Philippine theatre history. It was written by Severino Reyes, with music by Fulgencio Tolentino, and tells the saga of Tenyong, a young revolutionary torn between love for his fiancee and duty to his country.
Leading the casts are Bimbo Cerrudo and Bong Chavez alternating as Tenyong, while sopranos Josephine Roces and Cynthia Culig-Guico alternate as Julia, the fiancee.
Directed by Dennis Faustino, "Walang Sugat" premieres November 21 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Dec. 13.
Musical direction by Chino Toledo, choreography by Agnes Locsin.
