"LOSER" DECLARED TAWI-TAWI MAYOR
Tawi-Tawi, Nov. 25, 1997 - After occupying the position and performing the functions as mayor of the town of Tandubas in the province of Tawi-Tawi, Pindato Sali was unseated last week by the Commission on Elections municipal board of canvassers, who declared his opponent as the real winner of the 1995 mayoralty election.
Fawzi Alonzo, who was declared loser in 1995, had strongly doubted that they lost, and requested a recount of the ballots.
The recount took more than two years, but the result was worth waiting for. The tally showed Alonzo with 2,098 votes, or with 400 votes more than what the Comelec first said he got. That was enough to reverse the result of the 1995 election.
Newly-proclaimed Tandubas Mayor Fawzi Alonzo has barely five months before the next election for mayor in May 1998.
