CENTRAL LUZON TEACHERS GET AMELIORATION BENEFITS
Angeles City, Nov. 24, 1997 - Some 35,000 Elementary School teachers in Central Luzon will receive P2,000 each as amelioration benefit.
The Central Luzon director of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports announced the release of the funds for the teachers yesterday. Director Stephen Capuyan, however, advised 11,000 high school teachers to wait until the DECS shall have determined savings in its budget from which their own benefits could be withdrawn.
The teachers belonging to 15 associations led by the Association of Educators for Region Three (ASSERT) claim that aside from the amelioration fund, they are also entitled to P6,000 hazard pay and P3,000 centennial bonus.
Thousands of teachers picketed the DECS regional office in Angeles City to press for full payment of their benefits and bonuses.
