NO MORE RED TIDE IN EASTERN VISAYAS

Tacloban City, Nov. 21, 1997 - The Department of Agriculture has lifted the "red tide" alert throughout Eastern Visayas.

Region 8 Regional Director Cirilo Balagapo said results of the recent laboratory analysis of water samples taken from the bays of Eastern Visayas showed the areas were negative of the deadly "red tide" organisms.

With the announcement, the ban on selling and harvesting of shellfish in the region is lifted.

The areas declared free of "red tide" are: Maqueda Bay, Villareal Bay and Calbayog Sea in Western Samar, Biliran Sea, Carigara Bay, Sogod Bay and Cancabato Bay in Tacloban.
