CLARK CHECKS BOUNCE, WORKERS UNPAID
Clark Field, Nov. 18, 1997 - More than 300 construction workers and laborers at the 200-hectare Fontana Leisure Parks inside the Clark Special Economic Zone have not been paid their salaries since September.
The salaries were delayed when checks worth several million pesos issued by the developer bounced.
Fontana is the second biggest tourism project at the ecozone. Its project includes the construction of 544 villas, a five-star 300-room hotel, an 18-hole world-class golf course, a convention center and sports facilities.
Observers now doubt that the Fontana project will be finished in time for the Philippine Centennial celebrations in June 1998.
