PANGASINAN ILLEGAL FISHPENS GIVEN TILL DEC 31

Dagupan, Nov. 17, 1997 - Illegal fish pens in Dagupan and along the Lingayen Gulf will definitely be demolished come January.

The Lingayen Gulf Coastal Area Management Commission has informed Mayor Alipio Fernandez that the approximately 1,000 illegal fish pens, originally given until April 30, 1998, now have to comply with Executive Order 450 issued by President Ramos.

The Executive Order was issued following several on-the-spot checks by President Ramos himself, and on recommendation of health and fisheries officials alarmed by the degradation of the ecological system of Lingayen Gulf.

Government officials do not expect an extension to the new deadline.
