PARQUET PROJECT FOR AURORA'S IGOROTS
Baler, Aurora, Nov. 16, 1997 - The government's Office for Southern Cultural Communities has approved a livelihood project which will benefit Igorot families in Manggitahan settlement, Dilasag town.
The project involves the purchase of equipment for making wood parquet, a popular and very costly flooring material for homes, office and commercial buildings.
The Igorot families were organized into a cooperative-type community, complete with a tribal council which will oversee the project.
Wood parquet tiles have a tremendous export potential. Introduction of wood parquet production is expected to reduce the destruction of forests because it provides a higher income than charcoal-making.
