IRATE DAVAO VILLAGERS TORCH MARIJUANA FARM
Digos, Davao del Sur, Nov. 10, 1997 - Villagers have turned against the illegal drug trade and destroyed Marijuana plantations in remote sitios of Kiblawan, according to a police report.
Supt. Virgilio Humol is quoted by the Bulletin's Bong Reblando: "The once timid villagers have turned furious, uprooting and torching marijuana plants. These are the mountain people in Kiblawan, notoriously known as the "grass country" of the south.
The raids by police and Army troopers on marijuana plantations in the vast mountainous areas in Kiblawan and the constant dialogues and interaction with the villagers have resulted in turning the citizenry into a potent force in the fight against the drug menace.
A series of buy-bust sting operations of government authorities has led in the arrest of 40 drug pushers and the dismissal of two police officers.
