SAN CARLOS CITY TO BE NEXT VISAYAS CENTER
Bacolod City, Nov. 8, 1997 - San Carlos City is offering a seven-year moratorium on taxes for new investors as a come-on for participants in the San Carlos City Corridor Development Plan which aims to be the new regional growth center in the Visayas.
The development plan aims to develop San Carlos as a modern agro-industrial complex with 25,000 hectares of high-value crop agricultural area and a forest area for virgin as well as commercial tree plantations.
Centerpiece of the plan is a 5,000-hectare urban light industry and tourism component. It will be serviced by a major port, a feeder airport, highways, power, water and telecommunications infrastructure.
San Carlos City Mayor Rogelio Debulgado says the site will not compete with other areas, but will make the satellite city a gateway linking Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo and Dumaguete.
About P230 million has been allocated for the development of the San Carlos port.
