BOLINEY MAYOR FAVORS AMERICAN MINING EXPLORATION
Boliney, Abra, Nov. 7, 1997 - Boliney Mayor Benido Balao-as is optimistic that the operation of an American mining firm's exploratory work will help in the economic upliftment of his town.
In an interview, Mayor Balao-as said the US corporation had applied for a permit to conduct mining exploration on 200 hectares of idle land in the town, but non-government organizations are opposing it.
"I favor the proposal of this mining firm since they have already guaranteed that there will be no pollution, they are willing to pay taxes to our town, and their operation will generate employment," he said.
He pointed out that the town is very poor and could not earn income if investors are not allowed to invest.
Among the infrastructure the town needs badly are farm-to-market roads.
