EASTERN VISAYAS RECEIVES P161-M PROJECTS
Catarman, Northern Samar, Nov. 5, 1997 - It was a merry Christmas day in November when President Ramos flew in to distribute P161 million worth of goodies to the towns, barangays and provinces of Eastern Visayas yesterday.
NEWSFLASH editor Sol Jose Vanzi was with the president's party as he handed out 59 ambulances, land titles for farmers, millions of pesos for the rehabilitation of rural hospitals and more projects for water reservoirs to meet the challenge of the El Nino phenomenon.
The rebirth of the slumbering abaca industry also received attention. Budget Secretary Salvador Enriquez was ordered by the president to review the funding requirements of the abaca industry integrated program.
Other programs attended to were: the installation of power lines to minimize power interruptions, upgrading of the telephone system, completion of power plants and the establishment of satellite extension offices of the POEA to attend to workers in the region.
