PALAYAN CITY IS NEXT AGRO-INDUSTRIAL CENTER
Palayan City, Nov. 4, 1997 - Palayan City looms as the next agro-industrial hub in Central Luzon, complete with an international airport and a special economic zone.
Palayan Mayor Leonora Fajardo revealed that the Palayan City Agri-Industrial Center, which will be built at a cost of P685 million, has been approved by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
"Once the project is realized, there will be increased economic activity because development programs will be fast-tracked, and Palayan will get out from under the shadow of its more progressive neighbor Cabanatuan City," the mayor said.
The Palayan ecozone, a joint venture of the city government and the private sector, will rise on a 1498-hectare property in Barangay Atate. Under the joint venture scheme, the city government will own 30% of the ecozone, while the private sector-developer will own the remaining 70%.
Mayor Fajardo also announced that there are plans to transfer the Nueva Ecija provincial capitol, and Palayan is one of the transfer sites being considered.
