STOCKS STEADY, PESO FIRM AT P34.85/DOLLAR

Manila, Nov. 8, 1997 - The peso reflected the calm prevailing over currencies in the region, closing at 34.85 to the dollar. It closed at P34.83 Thursday. Trading was low, at $46.90 million against Thursday's $111.5 million.

At the Philippine Stock Exchange, shares closed marginally higher, with the Phisix closing at 1,893.61, up 0.55 point higher than Thursday's close.

Losers outnumbered gainers 60 to 45. A total of 995 million shares were traded valued at P1.3 billion.
